Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Sauron’s Deceptive Rise

The epic fantasy series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns for a second season, and J.D. Payne, the series’ co-showrunner, promises a shift in focus from heroes to villains. Speaking to Collider, Payne revealed that season 2 will prominently showcase Sauron as he embarks on a cunning campaign of deception.

"You remember in Season 1 how it didn’t end exactly as he would have hoped; Galadriel cast him out, and he’s left with basically nothing. She has the three rings. He has no friends, he has no army, he has no allies, no weapons, basically no resources except for his own cunning. Season 1 was all about the heroes and about setting the table with Galadriel, with the Dwarves, with Númenor, and with Southlanders. Season 2 is gonna be all about the villains, and specifically all about Sauron. We’re going to watch as he uses deception, manipulation, lies, coercion, cunning to start to set the chess pieces in motion. He’s gonna go to this person over here and sort of set this group against that group over there and start using people’s inherent trusts and mistrusts and fears against them to start to set up the situations that are all beneficial to him."

Star Trek: Lower Decks: "Sick" Guest Star Lineup

The animated comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks is returning for its fifth season, and the crew is not short on surprises. In a recent interview with Trek Culture, Gabrielle Ruiz, who plays Ensign Tendi, teased an impressive roster of guest stars.

"The guest star list is sick, okay. The people that are coming in that said yes to do it… [squeals]. I’m just squealing for everybody to find out. And then there’s some additional good girl hang again with T’Lyn and Mariner and Tendi. They let us have that again in a very, very different situation. And I think that episode–it all happens in that same episode, and I can’t wait for that specific episode to air because I think it’s the best one. It’s written the best, the guest star list is the best, the dynamic of us trio [of] girls doing the thing is so much fun."

While Ruiz remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the guest star lineup, her enthusiasm and "squealing" promise an exciting season full of familiar faces and unexpected appearances.
