Key Takeaways:

  • A return to summer-like humidity: Although we’ve enjoyed a taste of fall-like temperatures, get ready for a return to sticky conditions as humidity creeps up throughout the weekend and into next week.
  • Stray storms on the horizon: While high pressure remains dominant, the end of the week will bring a series of disturbances, resulting in the potential for isolated thunderstorms, especially on Monday. There’s also a chance of an isolated stronger storm, which meteorologists will be closely watching.
  • Warm temperatures will stick around: Expect temperatures to surge back into the 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing the true summertime heat back into the region.
  • Rain returns: Though not considered washouts, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist throughout the week, with potentially higher chances later in the weekend.
  • Labor Day weekend outlook: Another cold front is anticipated for Labor Day weekend, which could bring some showers and storms.

Although we’ve enjoyed a taste of fall-like temperatures, get ready for a return to summer-like humidity as the high pressure system slowly slides eastbound. The shifting wind from the Southwest will bring back warmer temperatures, pushing into the lower and middle 80s this afternoon. While pleasant now, this shift will also begin to introduce more humidity into the region, leading to a stickier feel in the air by Sunday.

The increased humidity will also contribute to the potential for stray storms, as a few disturbances make their way through the area. The first of these disturbances is expected to arrive late Sunday and into Monday, bringing with it the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. The threat of isolated storms will continue on Monday as well, with the potential for some stronger storms driven by increased instability in the atmosphere. While unlikely to be widespread, this is a development that meteorologists will be following closely, as a Marginal Risk of stronger storms is draped over parts of the region.

Tuesday will offer a brief respite from the storm activity as we settle into a drier period. Nevertheless, the muggy and warm conditions will persist. The pattern indicates that the active weather will continue throughout the week, with additional disturbances anticipated to move in Wednesday into the weekend. While none of these days currently appear to be washouts, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will linger throughout the week.

Later into the weekend, a stronger system is anticipated to slide our way, potentially increasing the chance of showers and thunderstorms. Then, a cold front is predicted to swing through the Commonwealth, bringing temperatures back down into the lower 80s by the following Sunday.

Looking ahead further, another cold front will likely sweep through the region, shifting the shower and storm threat to the Monday to Tuesday timeframe. Temperatures are anticipated to drop back to below normal, with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s by Tuesday.

The summer heat will rebound, however, with temperatures returning to the 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday. This means a return to the true summer feel, with the possibility of Heat Index values reaching the lower 90s early in the week, climbing even higher by midweek.

As for Labor Day weekend, we are monitoring another incoming cold front, which has the potential to bring a renewed chance of showers and storms over the holiday weekend.

So, while we enjoy the relative coolness and dryness of the weekend, be prepared for a return to summer-like weather next week, accompanied by some potential for isolated thunderstorms.

"Have a great night!" -T.J.
