1′ KICKOFF AT GOODISON #EVEAVL
Seamus Coleman has today become Everton’s all-time Premier League appearance holder with 355 games for the club! A reminder they paid just £60,000 for him… what a bargain.
Abdoulaye Doucoure returns for Everton against Aston Villa.
He starts in midfield for the Blues as Sean Dyche also names Arnaut Danjuma in his starting line-up.
Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Onana, Garner, Doucoure; Harrison, Danjuma, Calvert-Lewin
Subs: VIrginia, Patterson, Godfrey, Keane, Gomes, McNeil, Dobbin, Beto, Chermiti
It’s a huge match for both teams – for very differing reasons. Everton are now outside of the relegation places on goal difference only after Luton Town snatched a 1-1 draw at Burnley on Friday. With the Blues still waiting to hear on the appeal against their 10-point deduction for breaching the league’s financial rules, they could do with a win this afternoon.
But it certainly won’t be easy. After all, Villa will move level on points at the top of the table with victory here.
Joe Thomas, Chris Beesley and Connor O’Neill will be in place at Goodison to updates and analysis from the match, which gets under way at 2pm, and stick with us for all the best post-game reaction.
Kick-off
We’re underway through Moussa Diaby with Everton attacking the Park End in the first half.
Watkins take the shot but it was saved by Pickford #EVEAVL
A landmark game for a third time this season?
When Everton were hammered 4-0 at Villa Park in August it led to Sean Dyche reshuffling at the back, bringing in Jarrad Branthwaite for the following games. Everton’s worst performance of the season, up to Wolves at least, led to the emergence of its best player of the campaign.
The second time Everton went to Villa Park it was in the Carabao Cup and for one of two away wins in a week. Those results did not spark an immediate run of form but they provided the belief and foundation for what followed.
What will this third match up bring? A good result would be a big help heading into some tough games. Everton have the ability to get that – and they have the fans behind them as Goodison now erupts to Z-Cars

A three minute VAR check eventually ruled out Alex Moreno’s strike…
Do VAR checks take too long?
Alex Moreno has the ball in the net with a fine strike from the edge of the box! However the goal is ruled out as Leon Bailey was offside in the build-up… #EVEAVL
Another lengthy VAR check in #EVEAVL… Alex Moreno’s goal is eventually ruled out
Tarakowski is ok to carry on and he is back on the pitch #EVEAVL
#AVFC have got the habit of trying to shield and put their studs on the ball when they are facing their own goal. Means they are unsure of what’s around them and are getting their pockets picked. Kamara, Luiz and Konsa all guilty of it

Remarkable from Martinez. A huge double save with #AVFC all over the place as Everton counter. First, Lenglet keeps Calvert-Lewin onside after Carlos decides to step up, but Martinez saves the initial one-on-one. He then reacts and gets down supremely to stop Garner’s low shot.
