Police Respond to Shooting at School in Perry, Iowa
It was unclear whether there were injuries. Local news media said the first reports of a shooting at a school came just as students were arriving for the first day back after break.
The police in Perry, Iowa, are investigating a shooting at a high school, according to the Dallas County Sheriff.
Emergency responders arrived at Perry High School, about 40 miles northwest of Des Moines, as students were beginning to arrive for their first day back after winter break.
Local news said reports of a shooting first came in around 7:40 a.m. Emergency vehicles could be seen from multiple agencies.
The Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy was scheduled to kick off a political event in Perry on Thursday morning. NBC News reported that the event was still scheduled to continue and described it as a “discussion and prayer” event.
Mr. Ramaswamy said “pray for the community” in Perry on social media.
