Ali Golshan, co-founder and CEO of Gretel.ai, highlights this advantage: "With the rise of compound AI systems and agent architectures, using small but fine-tuned open source models gives significantly better results than an [OpenAI] GPT4, or [Google] Gemini. This is especially true for enterprise tasks.”

It also grants the state’s attorney general legal recourse in cases of severe AI-related harm.

While Wiener initially faced criticism from some in the open source community, he has since made significant amendments to the bill, specifically addressing concerns regarding the shutdown of rogue open-source models. This demonstrates a willingness to engage with the open source community and ensure that regulatory frameworks are balanced, promoting innovation while safeguarding against potential risks.
