Vivo is back with a revamped V series, just four months after unveiling the V30 series. The new contenders, the Vivo V40 and V40 Pro, occupy the space between mid-range and premium smartphones. In this article, we take a deep dive into the Vivo V40 Pro, a device boasting top-notch hardware and a refined design, priced at Rs. 49,999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant and Rs. 55,999 for the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant. While Vivo’s V series has traditionally focused on sleek aesthetics, with the V30 series, the brand emphasized camera advancements. The V40 Pro, however, aims to be a true all-rounder, prioritizing performance and battery life. Join us as we uncover what’s new in this enticing release.

A Refined Design and Familiar Camera Prowess

Vivo has delivered a refreshing design revamp. Like its recent models, the phone flaunts curved edges on the sides, with a flattened top and bottom. The V40 Pro boasts improved durability with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, a significant upgrade from the IP54 rating of its predecessor, the V30 Pro.

The curved design seamlessly incorporates a 6.78-inch, full-HD+, 120Hz curved edge AMOLED display protected by Schott’s Xensation Alpha glass. The curved edge rear panel, also made of glass, is available in a striking Ganges Blue finish with a dazzling iridescent wave-like pattern. This finish, though reminiscent of the V30 Pro’s Andaman Blue, has a distinctly unique character. The phone also comes in a Titanium Grey option.

The most noticeable design change is the unique keyhole-shaped camera module. This module, while somewhat unconventional, houses a familiar camera setup. The circular module accommodates the 50-megapixel ultra-wide and primary cameras, while the capsule-shaped bottom assembly houses the 50-megapixel (2X optical) telephoto camera and the Aura light LED ring. The Aura light ring, in comparison to the V30 Pro, has been scaled down in size. As in its predecessor, the selfie camera features a 50-megapixel sensor with autofocus.

Enhanced Performance and a Robust Battery

Under the hood, the V40 Pro packs a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ SoC, a significant upgrade over the Dimensity 8200 SoC found in the V30 Pro. This powerful chipset promises several performance enhancements.

The battery has also received a significant bump. The V40 Pro now features a 5,500mAh battery, charged using the same 80W charger as its predecessor. Notably, Vivo has opted out of wireless charging with this new model.

Funtouch OS 14: AI-Enhanced Software

The V40 Pro runs Vivo’s Funtouch 14 OS, based on Android 14, and includes a suite of AI-powered image editing features. This software is a compelling addition to the device’s overall experience.

A Premium Smartphone with Potential

With a focus on performance and battery life, Vivo’s V40 Pro aims to stand apart from the crowd of premium smartphones from established manufacturers like Samsung and Google. While these brands heavily lean on AI features, Vivo is still exploring the AI landscape in its premium segment, reserving these features for its ultra-premium models like the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro.

The V40 Pro holds immense potential, particularly in the photography segment. Our detailed review, which will be published shortly, will explore this device’s capabilities and provide a comprehensive assessment of its strengths and weaknesses.
