A Premium Cleaning Experience: Samsung Jet 90 Complete Review
The quest for the perfect vacuum cleaner often ends in a compromise – affordability often comes at the cost of power, ergonomics, or a combination of both. However, the premium cordless vacuum cleaner market is booming, with new contenders like Samsung and Philips challenging Dyson’s longtime dominance. Samsung’s recently launched Jet series, priced starting at Rs. 32,500 in India, promises high-performance cleaning. This review focuses on the Jet 90 Complete, the most powerful and expensive model in the series, priced at Rs. 49,990. Does the Jet 90 Complete outshine the competition, including the well-regarded Dyson V12 Detect Slim? Read on to find out.
Samsung Jet 90 Complete: Design & Usage
While competitors often sport bulky, colorful, and somewhat loud designs, Samsung takes a more sophisticated approach with the Jet 90 Complete. Available only in silver, the Jet 90 boasts a cyclone-based suction system with nine cyclones generating powerful suction.
The cyclone system and air filter are ingeniously housed within the 0.8L dustbin, allowing for easy removal and water washable cleaning to maintain optimal performance. The motor and air vents are located behind the dustbin, while the suction inlet sits below. This unconventional airflow arrangement doesn’t hinder the Jet 90’s cleaning capabilities. The air filter is claimed to capture an impressive 99.999 percent of dust particles and allergens 0.5 microns or larger.
The Jet 90 Complete’s handle is positioned at the back, but the device’s weight distribution results in a slightly heavy feel when handling, especially during cleaning on high surfaces. Attaching the pipe and floor cleaning head helps distribute the weight, but the vacuum cleaner still feels somewhat awkward. This can become uncomfortable during extended cleaning sessions.
A quick-release button allows for simple battery insertion and removal. The package includes one battery, but an additional battery can be purchased separately for extended usage. The charging station cleverly supports charging two batteries simultaneously, making swapping batteries swift and seamless.
The handle’s top houses the control buttons – power, suction level adjustments, and illuminating indicators showing the active power mode, potential blockages in the roller head, or filter replacement alerts. Three power modes are available, along with a fourth ‘wet’ mode, requiring the wet-mopping fitting (not included in India or available for official purchase).
Emptying the Jet 90’s dustbin is a bit more complex than with competitor models because it requires full removal and unlatching. This process takes longer than necessary, and I often waited until the bin was nearly full to avoid the emptying hassle. However, this design allows for thorough cleaning of both the dustbin and the cyclone-generating apparatus, which can be washed as needed.
Samsung Jet 90 Complete: Fittings & Accessories
While other cordless vacuum cleaners come with standard charging adapters and plugs or wall-mounted docks, the Jet 90 Complete elevates the charging and storage experience with the impressive ‘Z Station’ charging stand. This well-designed apparatus simplifies charging and storage of the vacuum cleaner and its fittings. As mentioned, you can also charge a second battery simultaneously with the primary battery connected to the vacuum cleaner.
The Z Station’s base is hefty and stable, preventing tipping when the Jet 90 Complete is docked. It features a slot for charging a second battery. The adapter and power cable are connected to the base. If you prefer a more minimalist setup, you can remove the battery from the vacuum cleaner and charge it directly on the base. The main stand initiates charging as soon as the vacuum cleaner is placed on it, and provides dedicated sockets for clipping on the smaller fittings.
The Samsung Jet 90 Complete comes with several accessories: turbo action brush for deep cleaning stubborn stains on floors, soft action brush for regular floor cleaning, mini motorised tool for cleaning top surfaces, combination and crevice tools for specific cleaning tasks, and a flexible tool for reaching hard-to-reach areas. The turbo action brush, soft action brush, and mini motorised tool are motorised and draw power from the vacuum cleaner itself for brush rotation. The soft action brush and turbo action brush can be easily opened for cleaning.
The package also includes a telescopic adjustable extension pipe with four length options ranging from 930mm to 1,140mm, allowing for comfortable floor cleaning, easy access to heights, and convenient storage. The shortest length extends just about to the floor when the Jet 90 is docked on the Z Station, allowing for safe storage of the pipe and one fitting even while charging.
Samsung Jet 90 Complete: Performance & Battery Life
The Jet 90 Complete delivers suction power on par with Dyson’s products, including a rated peak suction power of 200W generated by the nine-cyclone system. This makes it one of the most powerful vacuum cleaners in its category, and its performance is evident in everyday use.
However, effective cleaning requires the use of appropriate cleaning heads to capture dirt and dust from various surfaces. The soft action brush with fluffy roller effectively cleans hard floors in most cases, but I found the turbo action brush to be more effective on carpets and heavily soiled areas.
The mini motorised tool is designed for cleaning soft surfaces, like sofas or beds, usually without the extension pipe. Despite its flexibility, I found it less effective in collecting dust and dirt on non-flat surfaces, such as between cushions or on fabric knots on sofas.
Fortunately, all motorised heads reliably avoided tangles or blockages during my testing time. Cleaning these heads was also straightforward for occasional grime buildup or tangled strings and paper scraps. The smaller non-motorised fittings proved useful for reaching narrow gaps or cleaning hard surfaces like countertops.
The ‘Mid’ power level is the default setting for the Jet 90 Complete, and it provided enough power for most everyday cleaning tasks in my home. I frequently used this setting during my review. Occasional cleaning tasks, like vacuuming carpets and rugs, required switching to the ‘Max’ power level for optimal results.
The battery-saving ‘Min’ level might suffice for a quick floor clean, but I preferred using the ‘Mid’ setting most of the time. The Jet 90 Complete operates with a notable level of loudness and a slightly shrill sound at the ‘Max’ power level, but remained reasonably quiet and unobtrusive at the ‘Mid’ and ‘Min’ settings.
Battery life on the Jet 90 Complete is decent but falls slightly short of the battery life offered by similarly priced competitors like the Dyson V12 Detect Slim. Operating at the ‘Mid’ power setting with a motorised cleaning head, the Jet 90 Complete lasted roughly 25 minutes on a single charge. The ‘Max’ setting yielded a runtime of about eight minutes. The device claims a runtime of up to 60 minutes with the ‘Min’ power mode.
Typically, the battery life was enough to almost clean my entire two-bedroom home in one session or to comfortably clean two or three rooms with occasional use of the ‘Max’ power setting. While battery life could be better, it didn’t significantly affect my ability to efficiently use the Jet 90 Complete on a daily basis. It took approximately three hours to fully charge the vacuum cleaner from empty.
Verdict
While affordable vacuum cleaners offer some benefits, investing in a premium cordless vacuum cleaner provides significant advantages. The Samsung Jet 90 Complete is undeniably expensive but offers the premium experience you’d expect from a high-end vacuum cleaner. With potent suction, a good selection of included fittings, and the unique and convenient Z Station charging dock, the Jet 90 Complete largely delivers a satisfactory cleaning experience.
It’s not without its drawbacks, such as average battery life, a somewhat fiddly dustbin cleaning process, and a slightly awkward handle position. However, these issues didn’t detract from the overall positive experience I had with the Jet 90 Complete vacuum cleaner.
The Jet 90 Complete looks great and offers reliable cleaning. If you’re seeking additional features, the Dyson V12 Detect Slim is another compelling option with its laser dust detection system and dust collection insights. However, the Jet 90 is considerably more affordable than the Dyson vacuum cleaner while still delivering superior suction power.
